1. A Ray of Hope For The Distress…
Mary Elenjikkal’s house had been destroyed completely during the devastating flood. At this distressing situation KIDS extended a helping hand to rebuild her house. The best part is in this noble venture, VP Thuruth, St. Sebastian church prisoners also joined hands and contributed both in kind and cash support to complete the house. Foundation stone lying ceremony of new house was performed by Fr. Joseph Olattupuram, parish priest along with Fr. Paul Thomas and Fr. Cletus Kochikkattu. Mr.P.O. Devassy, Councilor, Mr.Shaji Vadakkampurath, Ms.Jancy Joseph and parish council members were present. With our effort, today Mary has been rehabilitated successfully and she is living a happy life in the new house. So far with the support of humanitarian aid agencies, organization has provided more than 200 houses to survivors of natural calamities such as Okhi cyclone and Kerala flood 2018.
2 . Opened Tamarind Processing Unit…
With the support of Caritas India and Kerala Social Service Forum (KSSF), on 15th March 2019, a tamarind process unit was set up at Poyya. More than 100 vulnerable women started getting its direct benefits. Self-help group members are managing this unit in a sustainable manner. Unit has helped women to make a decent living out of this intervention.
3 . Kudos to Ms. Minnu Sibi
SHG member excelling in career, one of our group members Ms. Minnu Sibi D/o Mr.& Mrs. Chadayamury Sheeba and Baby became woman civil police officer. Excelling in her career, she was promoted to become one among 34 commandos of the regiment of Kerala Anti Terrorists Squad (KATS) based in Malappuram District. During the felicitating ceremony, she attributed her success to KIDS.
4 . Getting ready to practice
Ms.Steniya Antony, Valiyaveettil house, Pallippuram, one of our sponsored students excelled in her career under sponsorship project. At first attempts itself; she cleared her medical entrance examination and now pursuing her bachelor’s degree in homeopathy medicine and surgery (BHMS) in Thiruvananthapuram. On the occasion of her grand felicitation she narrated her success story as put it in her own words:
“It’s KIDS who motivated and gave me opportunity to study at coaching center run by Professor P.C Thomas, a well-known academic institute for higher studies in South India. Through sponsored program, I got amble opportunity to study and seek regular guidance free of cost even I was given free transportation. This facility paved me a good result. I cracked medical entrance test held in 2016 without any difficulty. Had I not got timely support and motivation from KIDS, I would not have made it to this level. So, I am really grateful to everyone especially animator Jancy aunty. On the top of it, I would like to thank my parents and teachers who relentlessly supported and guided me throughout my life. Together with my family, I extend my sincere gratitude to Rt. Rev. Dr. Joseph Karikkassery, President and Bishop of Kottapuram Diocese also to Fr. Paul Thomas, Executive Director. My best wishes to all sponsored children and my advice to them, is to make use of this opportunity for successful career building”
5. Transformed life…
August 2018 flash flood had wreaked havoc in the lives of Sheela w/o Kalistus, a resident of Thuruthur. With the impact of devastating flood her house got filled with flood water resulting absolute loss of her household items including livestock. Actually she had been rearing three goats as her source of income. Her husband is into carpentry without regular work or steady income. She was in utter chaos and desperate what to do in life. She had lost all hope.
It was then she attended a meeting chaired by the ward member to discuss about livelihood project supported by Caritas India. After having learned about the scheme she applied for livelihood support and selection committee accepted her application to donate her with a female goat. After one year, in October 2019, it gave birth and now she sells goat milk which is in great demand and started earning regular income. Sheela is overwhelmed with gratitude for timely support given to her family by KIDS through Caritas’ support. As she puts it in her own words “ellam nashtapettappol enikente pazahaya jeeevithan thirucukitty, santhoshamayee, KIDS num Caritas num othiri nanni.” (When I had lost everything I got back my old life, very happy and many thanks to KIDS and Caritas India).
6. Ancy’s life improved…
Ancy’s family consists of her husband and her two sweet kids. As her husband Aji a daily laborer, having no regular work pushed their family into poverty. Even they were not in a position to feed their children with nutritious food. Life scenario prior to furious flood was different. At least they had some hens which used to lay egg every day and it was great source of nourishment for their children. But now post flood they have lost everything including their livestock. In this pathetic situation, with the support of Caritas India, KIDS provided her family with a goat. They were encouraged as this would help her family needs of milk including for feeding her children. Yes it was really great consolation for Ancys’ family, today because of proper rearing female goat has given birth to two child goats. They are getting sufficient milk for their whole family and now they don’t have to buy milk for their children from the market. She is very happy and thankful to KIDS and Caritas India.

8. Neema became a bread winner…
Neema aged 40, an unmarried mentally challenged woman, residing in a tiny village called Mathilakam in Thrissur District in Kerala, India. She was very happy and content as she began to narrate her success story. She belongs to a very poor family of 8 members but a livelihood training she got through self-help group was really a turning point in her life. She has regular job regular and steady income as skilled artisan in the cluster resource centre. Her life transformed, able to support her brothers family consists of wife, three children, and aged parents where she lives. Neema is associated with KIDS over 10 years; she is as excited as she knows how to make different types of bags using natural fibers based on water hyacinth and screw pine. An expert handcraft artisan earning a decent living very thankful to KIDS family as her life got changed when she became a member of self-help group initiated by the organization. Had I not been empowered through animation I would not have achieved this heights.
