FISH VILLAGE

KIDS has always advocated for eco-friendly farming, whether it is organic agriculture or cage fishing, since its inception. As a continuation of this effort, the ponds at Mala were rejuvenated and prepared for prawn farming. A new batch of shrimp was purchased and released in Mala's eco-friendly ponds. The prawns can be harvested after six months. The project was funded by the St. Francis Assisi Church in the United States.


KADALPPERUMA – FISHERMEN FETED

Meeting for fishermen who engaged in rescue operation during flood in Ernakulam and Thrissur districts. Event was organized for honoring fishermen who selflessly putting their own life at risk saved hundreds of lives of people who were stranded due to extreme rain and deluge in 13-14th August 2018. Moreover, meetings was held in view of putting forward the long lasting demands of fishermen communities and get their rights fulfilled. It helped to empower fishermen and get them united to fight for their rights.


Setup village for fish farm cultivation

At Mala ten acres of hatcheries has been developed for growing varieties of fish and prawns. As of now prawns is reared with the support of fisheries department. They have provided prawn seeds and also other technical inputs required for the cultivation. It has great demand in the national and international market. In fact matured Indian prawn is one of the major commercial prawn species of the world. It is expected to grow in 4 months’ time and ready for harvesting.
