Cultivation of Screwpine

PLANTING SCREW PINE SAPLINGS

Screw pine saplings were planted by 100 artisans in their household premises, water bodies mostly being an integral part of the area. This is done in order to protect and safe guard the environment and above all to promote handicrafts based on natural fibers as means of their livelihood. This can benefit the families as screw pine is one among the main natural fibre raw materials used in weaving. Sale of the fibre can fetch a decent income for them. The pandemic and other natural disasters are forcing people to switch to traditional methods of living and the importance of environmental friendly practices. Representatives from the federation monitor the process and equally support with providing bio-organic manure.
