Street play was performed at Kottapuram Muziris Amphitheatre and Kodungalur Town
Under the leadership of Kottapuram Integrated Development Society, as part of road safety awareness, a street play was performed at Kottapuram Muziris Amphitheatre and Kodungalur Town to educate people. KIDS Assistant Director Fr. Varghese Kattassery, KIDS staff members and students of St. Ann's Higher Secondary School, Kottapuram participated in the programme.
Sigh of hope/consolation to the children of sea
On 29thof June, 2019 was indeed a very special day for KIDS family. It organized one day mega volunteer work for making wall fencing at Eriyadpanchayat where natural calamities were very common. During the sea cyclone such as tsunami and okhi, in this part of panchayat had suffered lot of damages. In order to make a wall across sea boundary with sand filled sack students of ITI,DDU-GKY, Quest Alliance Tally, Stella Maris College, Presentation College Puthenvelikara, Rajagiri College of Social Sciences, SHG members and KIDS staff contributed their voluntary labour. More than 300 students and volunteers made boundary wall by filling sand sack. Eriyadpanchayat ward No 1,provided full support for the event.
New Home to the Homeless2018
The devastating flood in 2018 caused severe damage across the state. The flood destroyed and damaged many houses and resulted in the urgent need of homes. KIDS along with other partners took up the challenge to build new houses for those affected by floods. As a continuation of this effort, we constructed few houses for the beneficiaries and handed over to them.
A Home for Loved One
Ms Elsy is a differently abled artisan who works under the natural fibre craft department of KIDS for several years. She is considered as one of the dearest members of KIDS. KIDS identified her need for a new home and decided to construct a house under the housing project of KIDS with the support of well-wishers. The house was blessed on 20th June 2020 and handed over by KIDS director Fr. Paul Thomas Kalathil.
Handed Over the Keys of Five New Houses 2020
Another five houses were built by KIDS at Thundathumkadavu, Kottuvally, Koottukad, Kunjithai and Madaplathuruth with the support of Habitat for Humanity India. Sri. VD Satheeshan MLA handed over the keys of the new homes to the family.
Land for the Landless 2021
Apart from constructing houses KIDS also provided land to the landless for constructing house. By providing land, KIDS helped four deserving families fulfil their dream of owning a home. Cothalango Church took the initiative to construct a new house in one of those lands.
Television Challenge 2020
The Covid 19 pandemic changed all the established systems and practices. This was also reflected in the educational system. The education system was adapted to online platforms to curb the rapid spread of disease. This sudden shift challenged the accessibility of education to the students who belong to marginalized sector. There was an urgent need for TV or Mobile phone to continue their studies through digital mode. Many families were unable to provide their children with digital devices due to financial constraints. At this juncture, KIDS organized a programme called TV challenge to avail television to the poor children. KIDS provided televisions to 35 children, who were unable to attend classes through digital mode. On 8th July, KIDS conducted TV challenge programme.
Mask Stitching and Distribution by KIDS, Kottapuram
During the period of pandemic, masks became a necessity and KIDS took the initiative to stitch and supply masks. More than 25000 masks were sewn and delivered to hospitals, municipal authorities, organisations, and police officers with the help of Self Help Group members.
- 1500 masks were given to Kodungallur Municipal Chairman by KIDS Kottapuram.
- 5000 masks were handed over to health volunteers to distribute at the Pallipuram Health Centre.
- 5000 Masks were distributed to Paravur Hospital which were exclusively stitched by women SHG Members.
- 10000 masks were given to Northern States through Habitat for Humanity India.
- With the support of Reliance Foundation the masks were distributed to Frontline Volunteers at Azhikode Jetty, Coastal Police Station, Kodungallur Police Station, Madavana Health Centre, Poyya Anganwadi, Anappuzha Health Centre, Vadakekara Panchayat, Vadakkekara Police Station, Chendamangalam Health Centre etc.
- Masks were supplied to 12000 families as part of Hygiene kit.
Kottapuram Samaritans
KIDS formed a team of volunteers named Kottapuram Samaritans, including 25 priests and 42 youth for the burial of dead bodies, IPC and PPE supplies, caring for the suspected or confirmed COVID-19 patients, providing psychosocial support, etc. KIDS provided online training program for these Samaritans about how to care COVID 19 confirmed patients or suspected patients by following the guidelines of health department. Dr. Raju PK, Technical Assistant & District Health Officer, Thrissur provided online training on 14th August 2020. Altogether, Kottapuram Samaritans assisted 18 Covid funerals in 2020 and helped people to reach the hospitals either for testing or to consult the doctor.
Food Kit Distribution 2021
Unprecedented situation due to the corona virus outbreak isolated the rural folks especially in the coastal island villages of Ernakulam and Thrissur districts. In this situation with the help of other supporting NGOs, KIDS Kottapuram initiated lot of activities. Our volunteers undertook home delivery of food kit (rice, pulse, tea powder, sugar etc.) and Personal Protective Equipment along with hygiene kit (Dettol, Sanitizer, Soap, Mask etc.) to the underprivileged families in cooperation with local self-government by following the guidelines and instructions of Health Department.
Observed international day for disaster risk reduction
The international day for disaster risk reduction was observed at Thrissur and Paravur.
The Programme was inaugurated by Thrissur district collector Shri. M. Shahnavas and deputy collector of Ernakulum respectively. During the event, collector of Thrissur presented a memento to KIDS for its yeoman services during 2018-19 floods. On behalf of the organization, Director, Fr. Paul Thomas Kalathil, received the award.
