D-Skill Training

In collaboration with the LBS Centre for Science & Technology Kalamassery Regional Unit , KIDS organized a 4 month’s  training program for the physically challenged. We are greatly indebted to Smt Thresia Joy and Smt. Sunita, the two dedicated teachers who brought the best out of each participants. Altogether there were 22 participants including one male. They were given training to make flowers, paper bag making  and star-making. At the end of the 4 months, we were astonished at the creativity of the differently-abled and  we are very happy and proud of the fact that many of them making use of it for making an earnings from it. We are motivated to start a Vocational Training –cum Production Unit for them specially focusing on star-making and paper bag-making.

“Image Training Centre & Offset press”  for the physically challenged

On of 3, July 2015, a dream Fr. Nixon  Kattassery, the  Executive  Director of KIDS, has been cherishing for 3 years  has come true when “Image Training Centre & Offset press ”  for the  physically challenged was inaugurated by Adv. Thomas Unnuyadan MLA (Gov. Chief  WHIP).

IMAGE PRINTERS is a press cum skill training centre founded under KIDS in 1994, providing employment opportunities for a few physically disabled women belonging families of lower income group from the coastal and back water coastal areas. However, its building and the infrastructure was too old and decaying. With a great desire to change the structure into a proprely built and furnished Offset Printing Press, Director Fr. Nixon knowcked the doors of many donors and finally CEI supported him to fulfil his dream.

Enabling Environment Programme

It is the practice of KIDS to conduct annually an “Enabling Environment Programme” for physically and mentally challenged children and their parents. The purpose is to bring the parents together as they, specially the mothers, are tied up at home with the children and to give them a feeling that we care for them, also to strengthen them by their mutual sharing of experiences.  This year we conducted it on 08/09/2015. The resource person was Dr. C.J. John, Chief Psychiatrist at MEDICAL TRUST HOSPITAL. His talk enveloped with compassion and spiritual elements , that the differently abled children are a blessing and it is God who has chosen them to be their parents, brought  the message of consolation and encouragement to the parents.

World Handicapped Day.

The Day for the Differently-abled was celebrated in KIDS on the 2nd of December. A special awareness programme was conducted on the ‘causes for mental and phisical challenges of the child bearing mother faces’ geneally resulting in various disorders in the new born child. The session was taken by Dr. Dileep Kumar, the proprietor of Ambuja Institute Of Ayurvedic Research And Documentation, Udayamperur. Having both thorough knowledge and experience in this field, Dr. Dileep could bring the message across to the parents who were present.

The parents, on the other hand, came up with a valuable suggestion that the session will be much more useful and applicable to women who are going to get married. After the session there was the formal inaugural session with shri Viktor George, Registrar, Kerala Fisheries University, lighting the lamp. The year of Mercy was also inaugurated by Rt. Rev.  Dr . Joseph Karikkasserry, Bishop of Kottapuram. After that there was the cultural program with many physically challenged taking part in singing. We also had organised a magic show for them, which they thoroughly enjoyed.

Award / “Certificate of Merit”

KIDS Kottapuram was honoured with the “Certificate of Merit” from the ministry of Social Justice for its outstanding contribution to the employability of physically challenged.  We feel very proud of the fact that the contribution which we are making to the Physically and mentally challenged has been recognized. Equally happy were the members of the Association of the physically challenged, Kodungallur, who behold Fr.
